There doesn’t seem to be any progress on talks around avoiding further disruption for British Airways passengers. Businessweek reports that ‘About 60,000 customers will be prevented from flying with BA during the walkout, which began yesterday and runs through March 30, the company estimates. Cancellations will wipe out 30 percent of long-haul services from London’s Heathrow airport.’
Meanwhile recently floated budget carrier Tiger Airways has raised eyebrows by replacing its local managing director Shelley Roberts, with Crawford Rix, managing director of UK low-cost airline “bmibaby”. The International Business Times reports that Tiger’s Group chief executive Tony Davis announced that the management change was done “amicably”, and that Ms Roberts was intending to leave for a “well deserved break”.
Japan Airlines (JAL) will expand its codeshare agreement with Jetstar Airways (JQ) from April 1, 2010, when JAL will place its ‘JL’ indicator on JQ-operated flights between Osaka (Kansai) and Cairns – a once-daily service commencing the same day.
Peanuts reports that japan Airlines & Jetstar have increased their codeshare arrangement onto the Cairns route – JAL and Jetstar have been bilateral partners since May 2007 and currently codeshare on flights operated by the latter between Tokyo (Narita) and Cairns. Fares issued by JAL for JQ-operated codeshare flights will be for economy class only, inclusive of meals and soft drinks. Alcoholic drinks and additional refreshments will be available for purchase onboard.
